The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum houses the largest collection of American printed cartoon and comics material in the world. Located on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus, it features sizeable art collections by Milton Caniff, Walt Kelly, Winsor McCay, and Bill Watterson, among others.
The facility is named after famed Ohio cartoonist Billy Ireland who worked for the Columbus Dispatch, where he drew editorial cartoons and his Sunday feature, The Passing Show.
Mary and I toured the museum in August 2022. Here are some photos from that visit highlighting the general collection, the Peanuts exhibit Celebrating Sparky, and the Still: Racism in America exhibit.
• Celebrating Sparky salutes the centennial birth of Charles M. Schulz creator of Peanuts.
• Still: Racism in America highlights the works of Pioneering father/daughter cartoonists Brumsic Brandon Jr. and Barbara Brandon-Croft who chronicle the nation’s cultural landscape in their comic strips through the lens of racism.
